Plate Calculator
Instantly see which plates to load on each side of the barbell. No more mental math between sets.
What is a Plate Calculator?
A plate calculator tells you exactly which weight plates to load on each side of a barbell to reach your target weight. It eliminates the mental math you’d otherwise do between sets — especially useful when you’re fatigued or working with unfamiliar plate denominations.
Standard Olympic barbells weigh 20 kg (45 lbs), but women’s bars weigh 15 kg (35 lbs) and training bars weigh 10 kg (25 lbs). The calculator accounts for the bar weight and shows you the plates needed on each side.
Weight plates follow a standard color coding system used in Olympic weightlifting: red (25 kg), blue (20 kg), yellow (15 kg), green (10 kg), and white (5 kg). Smaller fractional plates are also color-coded. This calculator displays the correct colors so you can quickly identify plates on the rack.
If your target weight can’t be reached exactly with the available plate denominations, the calculator shows the nearest achievable weight. This is common with pound-based plates or when attempting metric conversions.
